The New Mayor Promises a 'Fresh Chapter' for New York City in Inaugural Address
On his first day in the mayor's office, Zohran Mamdani committed to “reimagine” America's largest city, declaring “a fresh chapter” and an audacious beginning to his term.

The 34-year-old democratic socialist, who was a virtually unknown state assemblyman, has become the city's first Muslim mayor. He additionally marked a milestone by being the inaugural to be sworn in using the Qur'an.
