Grief as Popular South African DJ Gunned Down in the City of Johannesburg.
A prominent South African radio and club DJ has been shot dead in the metropolis of Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a nation struggling with entrenched crime.
Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was gunned down in the central business district on the afternoon of Tuesday.
Authorities reported the 40-year-old entertainer was confronted by three suspects, one of whom opened fire on him before running away.
The reason of the shooting is unknown and no one has been arrested have been made, police said.
Details of the Attack
Law enforcement revealed that Stock was ambushed as he was departing from a premises close to the city center landmark.
He had devoted time at the building managing the setup of security systems, which had been reportedly taken over by unknown people, as per local media.
"Authorities believe the deceased was approached by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they shot at him before escaping on foot," a police statement confirmed.
Security camera video showed a suspect with dreadlocked hair and wearing what resembled a protective services outfit shooting on Stock before fleeing.
The DJ attempted to flee after he was shot but succumbed to his injuries on the opposite side of the road.
Police added that Stock had an gun that was not fired and no items were stolen during the incident.
