Former Physician Accused of Sexual Assault Charges Involving 38 Individuals in His Care
Legal authorities have announced that a ex- physician now faces charges for carrying out sexual assaults involving 38 individuals who were patients.
Details of the Grave Allegations
The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of dozens of sexual offences – some of which involve some against children younger than 13 – spanning the period from 2017 and 2021.
A deputy chief prosecutor said, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to support a detailed and complex investigation, carefully reviewing the available evidence to establish that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that it is in the public interest.”
Scope of the Police Inquiry
The charges come after what police described as a “detailed inquiry” into reported assaults at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.
Spencer will appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.
Breakdown of Charges
The charging documents said the 45 charges comprise:
- Fifteen counts of sexual assault.
- 17 counts of assault by penetration.
- Nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
- Three counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
- 1 count of attempted penetrative assault.
